FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WATER?

A: Start watering immediately after installation. For the first ten days, water 2-3 times a day for spring and fall installations and up to three times during daytime for summer installations. Depending upon your particular irrigation system, you need to water each zone for 10 to 20 minutes or until water starts to run off. Another method is to apply about 1/4″ to 3/8′ of water per day. For further information, ask your irrigation contractor.

  • Q: DO YOU INSTALL SOD?

A: Yes, we have the finest, most reliable crews available and can usually install your sod within a few hours of delivery.

  • Q: HOW LONG WILL THE SOD SURVIVE AFTER IT IS DELIVERED?

A: Sod is a living perishable item and should be installed as soon as delivered; however as a general rule, it will retain its freshness for no longer than 12 hours. If you cannot lay your sod within this time, make sure it is stored in a shady location and laid as soon as possible.

SOD IS A LIVE PERISHABLE PRODUCT AND MUST BE RE-HYDRATED TO SURVIVE!!!

  • Q: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO INSTALL?

A: Most yards will just take a few hours. The installation crew will remove empty pallets and debris when the job is completed.

  • Q: HOW SOON AFTER INSTALLATION SHOULD I MOW? HOW OFTEN?

A: Your lawn should be mowed at the end of the first week and thereafter about every 7-10 days. Take care to mow with a properly sharpened mower set to cut to about 3 inch length.

  • Q: DO YOU GUARANTEE YOUR SOD?

A: We guarantee our sod to root to your soil. Once our sod roots to your soil our guarantee expires. Our guarantee is limited to the replacement of sod at the depot (customer must pick up or pay for delivery). This guarantee is valid only on sod laid where a functioning irrigation system has been installed. All hand-watered sod has NO guarantee. Sod purchased after October 15th (end of the growing season) through March 1st carries NO guarantee of any kind.

  • Q: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY NEW SOD TO ROOT?

A: Due to our unique combination of soil and specially blended fertilizers, our sod will generally root within 5-7 days of installation.

  • Q: WHAT ARE POLYMERS?

A: Polymers must be tilled into the soil. Polymers cannot be applied to the surface of an existing lawn. Apply dry polymers with a drop or broadcast spreader before sodding. Work into the soil 2-6 inches at a rate of 1 lb per 540 square feet. One pound of polymers can absorb up to 40 gallons of rainwater and 31 gallons of tap water. It releases up to 95 percent of the water absorbed and makes it available for the plant.
